LAFS.5.SL.2.5 is an ELA Common Core State Standard for fifth grade students. It states that with help, students should know how to enhance a presentation with audio/visual elements. I feel I am prepared to implement this statement. Since middle school, I have been giving presentations using PowerPoint and Google Slides that include pictures, GIFs, videos, and other multimedia elements. Therefore, it should be an easy skill for me to teach well.
On the CPALMS resource site, the standard MA.5.FR.2.4 is supported by the Original Student Tutorial "Carnival Craziness." In it, students must help characters prepare for a carnival by using unit fractions to divide. This resource can be used in my teaching to supplement a lesson. After building a fundamental understanding of the standard, students can complete this tutorial to strengthen their skills. The tutorial presents a fun, colorful story for students to interact and engage with, making learning the standard more fun for them.
It is important to be a good internet searcher in the teaching profession because the internet is a vital resource for supplemental materials like lesson plans and idea sharing. By being a good internet searcher, it is easier for a teacher to find exactly what material they are looking for without having to browse through countless websites. I think I will use the quotation feature on Google that ensures a word is included in a website the most. One thing not introduced that I use often is Google Scholar. Once we no longer have access to FSU Libraries, Google Scholar is a great way to find reliable sources, and you can filter to only see open-access articles.
Hi Libby! I agree with what you say about usage of internet searching for teaching. It is important for teachers have this skill for their day to day tasks with students. It is also cool to see the carnival craziness tool and what that does!
